Reopen Process Update
Dear Church Family,
Our Reopen the Church Task Force met last night on Zoom to discuss the possibility of reopening for in-person worship in August. Unfortunately, the July reports on the spread of Covid 19 do not favor that. In fact, July has been a particularly high month for Denton county in reported new cases. Hopefully, increased personal participation in mitigation efforts will result in a flattening, and ultimately, a decline in spread in August.
I am painfully aware of how much many of you long to be in church with our Oak Grove family; I too miss our fellowship and sense of gathered community. But our desire to be together is not a reason to put our health and that of our loved ones at risk. The safety and health of our church family continues to be my main concern when considering a return to in-person worship. Of course I am also mindful of the vital importance of our spiritual well being, especially given the atmosphere we are living in today. That is why Pastor Brad and Janie Humphrey, Nick, and I will continue to broadcast worship from the church on Facebook Live at 10:00 and I will also continue to offer Mornings in the Word on Wednesdays at 10:30 on Facebook Live.
I realize that these broadcasts are a marginal substitute for gathering in person but I also know that they are only part of a strategy for maintaining spiritual health and equilibrium. Each of us has a role in the responsibility for our own growth and discipleship through regular prayer, reading and meditation on God’s word, and encouraging each other in our faith. These are practices we all can and should be engaged in as followers of Jesus. Please let me know by email if you would participate in an occasional prayer and bible study gathering online with Zoom where we could see each other and pray together.
Pastor Brad has made great progress in updating our kitchen with a wider entry doorway, fresh paint top to bottom, and new flooring is next! Be sure to thank Pastor Brad for his work on this project.
One of the adult classrooms recently received a fresh coat of paint, thanks to our Lay Leader, Leslie Maynard.
Education Building Demolition
The official permit has been issued and work should begin in a couple of weeks to remove the old, deteriorating building. Any ideas on use of the space it will leave?
Finally, thank YOU for your patience in waiting, your faithfulness in praying, and your generosity in giving in these days of constant, frequent and rapid change.
I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers, because I hear about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints.
Philemon 1:4-5 (NIV)
